RI Publishes Resources on Club Flexibility
Posted by Garth Gordon on Feb 28, 2017
RI research and member clubs' experiences have shown that when clubs have more freedom to decide how and when they hold their meetings, who they'll invite to become members, and what member engagement means, their ability to attract new members and keep current members motivated increases. The 2016 Council on Legislation voted to give Rotary clubs more flexibility than they've ever had. The changes in policy affect when, where, and how clubs meet and the types of membership they offer. RI has now published a number of resources to assist clubs who are considering flexible rules. These resources are found at: https://my.rotary.org/en/club-flexibility.
We have also prepared a District resource. The new “flexibility rules” require clubs to amend their by-laws to implement them. To simplify this process our District drafted a short alternative by-law paragraph by which a club (incorporated or not) may delegate authority to implement flex rules to the Club’s directors on notice to its members.

This a one-time by-law change for clubs. When adopted, the club’s directors can easily implement, amend or cancel flex rules on notice to its members. RI approved this paragraph and the Nova Scotia Companies Office has accepted it when filed by two clubs. Find this paragraph in the article “7820 - Checklists for Rotary Club Constitution Review” through the link on the District Website home page - District Documents / Club Constitution Review Documents – 2016.
