Ambassadorial Scholar speaks to Halifax Northwest

At the regular meeting of the Halifax Northwest Club on June 27, the guest speaker was well known to the members. Sanjeev Chowdhury, a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, sponsored by that club took time out of his busy schedule to speak to many Rotarian friends and also many invited friends of his. Sanjeev briefly outlined his thoughts about living in one of the most vibrant cities in the world and put to rest the popular movie impressions of a city filled with crime and snakes. Neither exist and the city officials are working very hard to clean up the remaining slums and forcing the criminal element out of the city. Portugese is the main language spoken there with very little English outside of the major hotels.
Sanjeev is touring Atlantic Canada with ACOA to promote investment in Rio. Reserves of 16 million barrels of crude oil have been discovered off the shores of Brazil and expertise is needed to help them get it into production. Along with that comes the support infrastructure.
Sanjeev also mentioned that he has met many celebrities during his short time there but unfortunately he will not be available when Madonna is in the city so she will not have the pleasure of meeting him.
