July 10:  Port Hawkesbury:  Tamarac Education Center and SAERC band leader, Anthony MacPherson, was the guest speaker at the Port Hawkesbury Rotary Club’s regular Tuesday lunch hour meeting at the Maritime Inn in Port Hawkesbury.  Mr. MacPherson, seen in the photo with Rotary club President, Pat Lamey, spoke to the club about the influx of students he is expecting into the band programs this year and the shortage of instruments available to the students.  He urgently needs to purchase or  find donations of used instruments to fill this shortfall.  The band programs receives no funding from the Strait Regional School Board for instruments, according to Mr. MacPherson.  The band members fundraise annually, and he often has to resort to scanning classifieds in local papers or online sites to find enough instruments to purchase at a reasonable price.  Currently, Mr. MacPherson could use approximately $4500.00  to purchase enough instruments for the expected influx of band members.  Alternatively, he accepts all donations of good used instruments, and is asking people to scour their closets or basements for instruments they’d be willing to donate to the school band.  For further information, please email Anthony at Anthony.MacPherson@srsb.ca
