Before the 2018 District Conference begins you won't want to miss the Thursday Professional Development Day (PDD) on May 24th at the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre in the Town of Conception Bay South (outside of St. John's). That is where all Rotarians can take their leadership skills to the next level. It's free for incoming Presidents and Secretaries and only $35 for all other Rotarians. Lunch and transportation to and from the conference hotel is included in your PDD registration. Beginning Thursday May 24th evening with Home Hospitality with Rotarians from the six regional clubs, an event not to be missed, the conference officially begins on Friday May 25th at the Holiday Inn and Conference Centre in St. John's. The conference has great keynote speakers, plenary activities, music, entertainment and lots of opportunities for district Rotarians to "Join Leaders - Exchange Ideas - Take Action"! The Rotary International President's Representative to the 2018 District Conference is Michael Webb from the Rotary Club of Mendip, England. Mike is a current director of The Rotary Foundation. You won't want to miss him speak. He will deliver an inspirational address on the 2017-18 theme "Rotary: Making A Difference" as well as a report on Rotary worldwide. Here is the latest on the Friday and Saturday Breakout Sessions:
- District Membership Chair Wendy Scammell and DGN Lousia Horne will lead a breakout on Membership - including an examination of the results of the district's exit survey of 100 people who left clubs in our district over the past 18 months.
- Public Image is a key focus of Rotary International and our district. Carrie Jones, Rotary Public Image Coordinator for Zone 24 East is travelling to St. John's and will talk about Public Image and the new "Rotary: People of Action" campaign.
- Hear all about "Santa to the Coast" from Past President Geoff Goodyear. The Rotary Club of Happy Valley - Goose Bay has been involved with this project for decades and it even won a Rotary Significant Achievement Award.
- Designed by Interactors and Rotaractors and led by Kristina Ennis (a former Rotaractor, now Rotarian), this breakout is an opportunity to hear from our future Rotarians about the work they are carrying out in their own areas as well as what their needs for the future may be.
- Where do the Funds we donate to the Rotary Foundation go? District Foundation Chair PDG Stella Roy leads a panel that will showcase successful District Grants and Global Grants. "Exchange Ideas" afterwards in the Q&A and then "Take Action"!
