Hello North Atlantic Rotary!

In this month’s video (FOUND HERE), I joined Thomas Paul from our District Public Image team to discuss two important October priorities: Economic and Community Development Month and World Polio Day on 24 October.

Read More to discover practical ways your club can connect with the business community, and how you can support Rotary’s polio eradication efforts on World Polio Day, 24 October, and throughout the year.

Rotary began by bringing people from different professions together to build relationships and serve their communities. That history gives us a strong foundation for supporting our local economies today.

There are many practical ways our clubs can get involved. Connecting with your local Chamber of Commerce is a good starting point. Invite entrepreneurs and business leaders to speak at your meetings, welcome them into your service projects, and explore opportunities to support skills development and create jobs. Rotary’s work in this area includes training, mentoring and helping people build sustainable livelihoods.

The best ideas often begin with a conversation. What challenges are businesses and workers facing in your community? Where could your club’s skills, relationships and resources help?

October also brings renewed attention to one of Rotary’s most significant commitments: ending polio for good.
Since 1988, polio cases have declined by 99.9%. Wild poliovirus remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan, while outbreaks of variant poliovirus elsewhere remind us why vaccination and continued vigilance remain essential. As long as polio exists anywhere, children everywhere remain at risk.

Across our district, clubs are preparing activities to celebrate the progress we have made, raise awareness and fund the work still ahead. I encourage you to take part, invite a friend, and help explain why finishing the job matters.

A personal donation is another meaningful way to contribute. Gifts to Rotary’s PolioPlus Fund help support vaccination and the resources needed to reach children. The Gates Foundation matches donations 2:1, tripling their impact: a $40 contribution becomes $120 towards polio eradication. Every contribution, whatever its size, helps move us forward.

Thank you for everything you do to strengthen your communities and support Rotary’s work around the world. Enjoy this month’s video, and I look forward to connecting with you again next month.

Warm regards,
Chris Hornberger
