June 2015 Bulletin Lead

This is my last newsletter to you as your Governor for 2014 - 2015

 

As I reflect over the year that has sped by I feel so proud all of the great work our district does in our communities both locally and globally.

Every week I hear of a new project or new idea to help others less fortunate than ourselves

 

St John’s NW  celebrated  50 years in style with 2 charter members and several 40 years plus. Sponsored by the RC of St John’s

Middleton celebrated 60 years sponsored by the RC of Kentville and Wolfville in the presence of Honorary Member and Premier of Nova Scotia Stephen McNeil. The museum in Middleton has an exhibition on Rotary for the remainder of the calendar Year. Drop by and see it.

We have grown as a district and have a new club RC of St John’s After Hours, sponsored by the District. Thanks to all the work and Mentorship of Membership Chair Paul Roy, PDG Tom McCaughy, AG Bruce Templeton and President Kelly Finlayson. This club is a new generation of clubs that meets with no meal at 5.30 in the evening and is one of now 6 clubs in the St John’s area.

 

A big thank you to all the work that Paul Roy has given the district in the last two years as District Membership Chair. He took his role very seriously and was there when any club asked for information.  He has left the district in a strong position going forward.

Elva Heyge  can never really be replaced. We will always remember her legacy of setting the policies in place for the “Future Vision of the Rotary Foundation” Our  District, Global Grants and Peace Fellow Scholarships are very well organised. We have just completed our FIRST Global Grant Scholarship for Matt Hefler to go to the UK thanks to Elva and President  RC Halifax Harbourside Donna Clark. Elva has worked for over three years in this role and continues on to do great work as District Governor Elect.  Thank you Elva

 

Thanks to Bob Monroe of the RC of Sydney ‘s guidance our Interact clubs have increased again and Cape Breton still leads the way in this area

Michelle Lazaratos of the RC of Charlottetown has worked tirelessly for our Youth exchange is in need of more committee members if people have an interest.

Lorraine Ennis has led our Rotaractors and we look forward to RYLA on the Rock in August.

 

We are close to our goal at $150,000 with more to come.  Thank you Bruce. You have championed this initiative

 

Thank you to PDG Gord Hankin for all his work with the Webpage and this newsletter. Gord is on the computer daily for the District, Thank you to Kathryn Atkin at the District office, PDG Duncan Conrad for his constant support and work with membership, PDG Bob Moffat for his work on the Awards and Audit , David Mullins as Grant Chair, PDG Doug Logan as Peace Scholar Chair and Thank you to the Board who have worked tirelessly for you this year.

 

 

I leave you in great hands with DGE Jim Goit, he is a delight to work with and will continue to work hard for the District with his wife Barbara at his side.

 

I am looking forward to going back to help with the work our club  RC Halifax Harbourside does in our community but thank you all for making me so welcome in your communities this year. You will always be welcome in Halifax
