District 7820 Rotarians Celebrate First Arch Klumph Society Members

Rotarians had reason to celebrate recently as they were on hand at RI headquarters for the induction of Joop and Susan Ueffing  as the first members of the 

Arch Klumph Society from District 7820.

 

Arch C. Klumph founded the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Ohio, USA, in 1911 and was the 1916-17 Rotary president. Addressing the 1917 convention in Atlanta, Georgia, he eloquently promoted the idea of "endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world." That year, the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri, made the first gift, of $26.50, to the fledgling fund. When the endowment had grown significant enough to require administrators to manage it, The Rotary Foundation was born, and Klumph was selected as one of its first trustees.

The Arch Klumph Society (AKS) was created in 2004, during Rotary International's centennial celebration, as a meaningful way to recognize the Foundation's highest-level donors, those who have made a donation of US $250,000 or more to the humanitarian programs of the Rotary Foundation.

 

Joop and Susan where they were joined by 12 other couples from across zone 24 who were also inducted in what was called the AKS Canada Day at the AKS Inductions at RI Headquarters.  This was the largest number of AKS members  ever inducted and  Joop and Susan are the first ever AKS members form D 7820.  

 

 

Supporting the Ueffings at the induction was a contingent of Rotarians and their partners from D 7820, including A/RRFC Stella Roy, RRFC Duncan Conrad, District Foundation Chair,  PDG Greg Coldwell and Claudia, PDG Tom McCaughney and Shirley, DG Elva Heyge, and Shirley Robertson, a friend of  DG Elva's from Vancouver.
