At the District Conference in Shediac District Governor Marcel Gervais announced that, following a District-wide nominations process, PDG Darren Hansen of the Rotary Club of Moncton West & Riverview has been named the District North Atlantic (D7815) Representative on the Zone 28 Nominating Committee to select the next RI Director.
Darren will join representatives from 20 district across Zone 28 (Canada, SPM, and border states including Alaska, Washington, Michigan, and parts of Maine and New York) to select the RI Director to represent both Zone 28 and Zone 32 (20 districts from parts of New York, Maine, Pennsylvania, and the New England states plus Bermuda). As part of this committee, PDG Darren will help to select the RI Director to serve July 1, 2028 – 2030.

In making this appointment, Marcel noted Darren’s past service as Governor of District 7810 in 2021-22 and his efforts in helping with the transition into the new District 7815 effective July 1, 2022. He also noted the excellent work of PDG Darren Hansen as the COL Representative from 2023-26. “Darren was very active in the Councils he was part of during his term that began in 2023. He consulted with our Board, understood how best to make change through the Councils, and was very successful this year in proposing and gaining support for a District North Atlantic Resolution to deal with a Rotaractor age limit issue that needed to be addressed.”Darren is very active in his home club, including by assisting with its recent strategic planning process as well as chairing its charitable foundation. Darren is also a member of the District’s Finance Committee.
Speaking about Darren’s appointment as district representative on the Zone 28 Nominating Committee, DG Marcel Gervais said, “Darren has the background, the skillset and the temperament necessary to be an excellent representative of our District.” Darren is eager to begin his new role as well, and offered the following comments about his appointment, “I believe in the importance of good governance and the choice of the next RI Director is a critical one for both our district and Rotary International at this time of rapid change around the world and within Rotary. It is an honour and privilege to represent District North Atlantic in this important Zone committee.”
DG Marcel also announced that PDG Stella Roy of the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbour has been named the Alternate District North Atlantic Representative on the Zone 28 Nominating Committee to select the next RI Director to the Council on Legislation. She will be available to fulfill the Representative role in the event that PDG Darren is unable to serve.
