Hello North Atlantic Rotary!

September is here, and for many of our clubs, that means getting back into the full swing of Rotary after a busy summer.

Before looking ahead, I want to celebrate some wonderful news from August: 24 new members joined our Rotary family across 19 clubs! A special shout-out goes to the Rotary Club of Stephenville, which welcomed four new members, and the Rotary Club of Grand Manan, which welcomed three. Thank you to everyone who continues to make membership and creating welcoming, irresistible clubs a priority.

Our Rotary family is growing in another exciting way, too. A new Interact Club is forming in Tantramar, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sackville, New Brunswick. That will bring us to 28 Interact Clubs across our district. If your community has a high school but doesn't yet have an Interact Club, perhaps this is the year to start the conversation!

Looking ahead to September

There is plenty happening across North Atlantic Rotary this month.

On September 9, we'll hold the first of three Presidents' Council meetings this Rotary year — an opportunity for club presidents, presidents-elect and other leaders to share ideas, learn from one another and find new opportunities to collaborate.

Then, on September 26, we'll hold our first mini-conference in Wolfville, hosted by Area Governor John McNeil. While the focus is on clubs in Southwest Nova Scotia, Rotarians from anywhere in the district are welcome. If you're looking for an excuse to spend a little time in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, this might be it!

Planning is also underway for our 2027 District Conference at Saint Mary's University in Halifax. Our conference team is beginning to take shape, and we'd love to hear from anyone interested in being part of it.

Creating lasting impact through education

September is also Rotary's month to focus on basic education and literacy.

In my video this month, I share the story of Nanyanga, a 13-year-old girl I met in Uganda through the Aninga Project. She lives in very modest circumstances, but when asked what she wants to become, her answer is clear: a lawyer.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what education can make possible. Through projects like Aninga — and the work Rotary clubs are doing in our own communities and around the world — we can help people like Nanyanga pursue goals that might otherwise seem out of reach.

That's what creating lasting impact can look like.

Bonjour au Rotary Atlantique Nord!

Septembre est arrivé et, pour plusieurs de nos clubs, c'est le moment de reprendre pleinement nos activités Rotary après un été bien rempli.

Avant de regarder vers l'avenir, j'aimerais souligner une excellente nouvelle du mois d'août : 24 nouveaux membres se sont joints à notre famille Rotary dans 19 clubs! Une mention spéciale au club Rotary de Stephenville, qui a accueilli quatre nouveaux membres, ainsi qu'au club Rotary de Grand Manan, qui en a accueilli trois. Merci à toutes celles et tous ceux qui continuent de faire de l'effectif et de la création de clubs accueillants et irrésistibles une priorité.

Notre famille Rotary grandit aussi d'une autre façon très prometteuse. Un nouveau club Interact est en voie de formation à Tantramar, parrainé par le club Rotary de Sackville, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Nous compterons ainsi 28 clubs Interact dans notre district. Si votre communauté compte une école secondaire, mais pas encore de club Interact, peut-être que cette année serait le bon moment pour lancer la conversation!

Un mois de septembre bien rempli

Il se passe beaucoup de choses au Rotary Atlantique Nord ce mois-ci.

Le 9 septembre, nous tiendrons la première de nos trois réunions du Conseil des présidents de cette année Rotary. Ce sera l'occasion pour les présidents, les présidents élus et les autres dirigeants de nos clubs d'échanger des idées, d'apprendre les uns des autres et de découvrir de nouvelles possibilités de collaboration.

Puis, le 26 septembre, nous tiendrons notre première mini-conférence à Wolfville, animée par le gouverneur de secteur John McNeil. Bien qu'elle s'adresse principalement aux clubs du sud-ouest de la Nouvelle-Écosse, les membres du Rotary de partout dans le district sont les bienvenus. Si vous cherchiez une bonne raison de passer un peu de temps dans la magnifique vallée de l'Annapolis, la voici peut-être!

La planification de notre Conférence de district 2027 à l'Université Saint Mary's, à Halifax, est également commencée. Notre équipe prend forme et nous aimerions beaucoup entendre celles et ceux qui souhaiteraient y participer.

Créer un impact durable grâce à l'éducation

Septembre est également le mois où le Rotary met l'accent sur l'éducation de base et l'alphabétisation.

Dans ma vidéo de ce mois-ci, je raconte l'histoire de Nanyanga, une jeune fille de 13 ans que j'ai rencontrée en Ouganda dans le cadre de l'Aninga Project. Elle vit dans des conditions très modestes, mais lorsqu'on lui demande ce qu'elle souhaite devenir, sa réponse est claire : avocate.

Son histoire nous rappelle avec force tout ce que l'éducation peut rendre possible. Grâce à des projets comme Aninga — et au travail des clubs Rotary dans nos propres communautés et partout dans le monde — nous pouvons aider des personnes comme Nanyanga à poursuivre des rêves qui pourraient autrement sembler hors de portée.
